Request for Best Practice Food and Nutrition Manual for Aged Care and/or Eating Well booklet/pamphlet

One of the main nutritional challenges facing older Australians is eating enough nourishing food to maintain a healthy weight and even having a little extra weight in reserve for times of illness or stress.

As a result of a partnership with Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD), Bidcare is distributing three important nutrition resources:

  • A comprehensive manual, ‘Best Practice Food and Nutrition Manual for Aged Care’ focussing on nutrition and food in aged care homes in Australia. This resource provides practical and comprehensive food and nutrition information for care staff
  • ‘Eating Well: a Nutrition Resource for Older People and Their Carers’. This booklet provides practical nutrition advice for older people living in their own home
  • A condensed version of ‘Eating Well’ in pamphlet form

The manual, booklet and pamphlet were written by staff of Nutrition Services, CCLHD.

According to A. Stewart Truswell,  Emeritus Professor of Human Nutrition, University of Sydney:

‘This manual is, I believe, very much needed and copies should be in every aged care facility in our country, one for staff education, one for kitchen staff and one for management’.

Best Practice Food and Nutrition Manual for Aged Care - 2018 Edition 2.1 (200 page manual)*

There is one exception to the epidemic of overweight and obesity in Australia. Older people can be at risk of malnutrition if they depend on others to provide their food.

The Food and Nutrition Manual for Aged Care provides appropriate, practical and helpful information for all staff of aged care homes, dietitians and those who have loved ones in care.

This resource has been written to provide practical food and nutrition ideas and advice for older people, their carers and support workers.

b) The two Eating Well resources are available in hard copy format. This is primarily for use by Transition Care Providers, Home Care Providers, as well as Residential Aged Care Homes that have adjoining lifestyle or assisted living facilities. However, on application requests for supply will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
