Thank you for supporting our farmers
Australia’s leading foodservice distributor, Bidfood, has today wrapped up its ‘Our Farmers’ drive aimed to raise funds for Aussie farmers who are battling with the impacts of drought.
During the campaign, over $45,000 was donated to the farming charity, Aussie Helpers. Aussie Helpers provides support to farming families to ensure their well-being and survival through tough times. This includes arranging social activities for farmers and their children, assisting with deliveries, and providing grocery and fuel vouchers, feed for stock, and mental health and counselling services.
Bidfood GM of Procurement and Marketing, Grant Fairlie, says that while donations such as this undoubtedly assist in providing immediate aid to farmers, they still have a long way to go and ongoing support by the foodservice industry is required.
"Our farmers need to rebuild and showing our support by continuing to purchase their product is the best way we can do this", said Mr Fairlie.
"It’s important to recognise that not only our farmers, but tens of thousands of workers along the supply chain outside of farming (processing, abattoirs and transport) have all been affected."
While Mr Fairlie says there will inevitably be an impact on meat pricing as a result of recent conditions, consumers will still be looking for quality local meat on menus.
"Now is not the time to remove Aussie meat from your menus, let's all continue to work together to show our support for these producers".
