Bidfood and KickStart for Kids.

Every child should have the chance to succeed.

KickStart for Kids was founded on the belief that every child, regardless of their social or economic background, should have an equal chance to succeed. The Bidfood team support this belief and that is why we have had a strong partnership with KickStart for Kids since the organisation was first founded in 2011.

Who are KickStart for Kids?

Ian with Van1

Ian Steel, a builder and father of three, founded KickStart for Kids after years of mentoring disadvantaged school children and noticing stark differences in their behaviour and learning compared to his own children. Through research and conversations with educators, he discovered that hunger was a major factor affecting students’ focus, self-esteem, and health. In 2009, he was moved to act. Ian shared these children’s stories with local shopkeepers, who donated enough food for him to deliver breakfast to one school. The immediate positive impact on the children inspired Ian to establish KickStart for Kids. Today, the program supports over 360 South Australian schools, providing around 60,000 breakfasts and 10,000 lunches per week.

KickStart for Kids and Bidfood: school breakfasts.

KickStart for Kids works with schools across South Australia, and Bidfood provides direct support through our two Adelaide-based branches. To aid KickStart’s school breakfast program, Bidfood donates up to 1,800 litres of milk each week, as well as facilitates other food donations from our network of suppliers. Our Adelaide teams also actively help raise essential funds and awareness by participating in KickStart for Kid’s annual ‘No Breakfast, Breakfast’ event.
